NeeDoh Nice Cube Drinks Edition boxes stacked on a shelf at J&W in East Belfast

NeeDoh Types Explained: Nice Cube, Nice Drop, Mello Mallo and Which to Choose

NeeDoh are squishy sensory toys made by Schylling. Each one is filled with a soft compound that you can squash, squeeze and stretch, and it slowly returns to its shape. They are popular with children and adults alike, but with so many shapes and editions it is not always obvious which one to pick. This guide explains the main types we stock at J&W on the Newtownards Road in East Belfast, how they feel and who each one suits. Prices are what we charge today.

The main NeeDoh types at a glance

  • Nice Cube Drinks Edition (£11.50). A cube made from NeeDoh's super solid compound, which is firmer and gives more resistance. Choose from Coca-Cola, Monster Energy, Pepsi, Red Bull, Sprite, Fanta and Dr Pepper designs.
  • Character Nice Cubes (£9.50 to £10). The same cube shape with a character or brand design: McDonald's, Oreo and SpongeBob SquarePants.
  • Nice Drop Drinks Edition (£13.50). A drop shape with a super solid gel filling, in Dr Pepper, Sprite, Fanta and Pepsi designs.
  • Teardrop (£13.50). A teardrop shape in NeeDoh's softer, stretchy compound, in Fanta, Sprite and Dr Pepper designs.
  • Mello Mallo (£9.50). Looks and feels like a marshmallow, and the warmth of your hands makes the colour change as you play with it.
  • Squeeze Hearts (£9.50). A heart shape with glitter suspended inside, so you can watch it swirl as you squeeze.
  • Diamond Shining Ball (£9.50). A ball with a shimmering diamond texture on the outside, in pink, yellow, blue, green or purple.
  • Fuzz Ball (£5). NeeDoh compound wrapped in a fuzzy coating. It is a mystery toy, so you find out which one you have when you open it.
  • Drink Cup (£8). Shaped like an iced drink cup and presented in a gift box, in pink, blue or green.

Firm or soft: how they feel

The biggest difference between NeeDoh types is how firm they are. The Nice Cube Drinks Edition and the Nice Drop use the super solid compound, so they push back more when you squeeze and suit anyone who likes a bit of resistance. The Teardrop and the classic stretchy NeeDoh compound are softer and squash more easily. If you are buying for someone who has not tried NeeDoh before and you are not sure, a softer type such as the Teardrop or Mello Mallo is a gentle place to start.

Which NeeDoh should I choose?

  • For drinks fans and collectors: the Nice Cube Drinks Edition has the widest choice of designs, with seven to collect. The Nice Drop adds a different shape in four designs.
  • For something to look at as well as squeeze: Squeeze Hearts for the glitter, the Diamond Shining Ball for the shimmer, or the Mello Mallo for the colour change.
  • For a smaller budget: the Fuzz Ball at £5 or the Drink Cup at £8.
  • For a surprise: our NeeDoh Mystery Bag holds three surprise items for £15.
  • For Christmas: the NeeDoh Advent Calendar has 24 numbered doors with a surprise behind each.

Age and care

The NeeDoh we stock are marked for ages 3 and up, and the NeeDoh Advent Calendar carries a small parts warning for children under 3, so check the product page before buying for a young child. Like any squishy toy, keep it away from sharp objects and pets, which can damage the outer skin.
